Undisclosed AI conflict videos now cost creators 90 days of revenue — repeat offenders banned for good

Label or Lose : AI War Videos Face the Axe on X !! X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, announced a significant update to its Creator Revenue Sharing program on March 3, 2026. The change aims to safeguard the authenticity of content appearing on users’ Timelines, particularly during periods of armed conflict when reliable information is critical.

In a post by Nikita Bier, Head of Product at X, the company highlighted growing concerns over artificial intelligence’s ability to produce highly convincing yet misleading videos. “With today’s AI technologies, it is trivial to create content that can mislead people,” Bier stated.

To address this, X will now suspend creators from the revenue-sharing program for 90 days if they post AI-generated videos depicting armed conflicts without clearly disclosing that the material was produced using artificial intelligence. Repeat offenders face permanent removal from the program.

Factual updates

The policy targets a specific and timely problem: the rapid spread of fabricated war footage that blurs the line between reality and simulation. During active conflicts, such content can distort public understanding, inflame tensions, and undermine trust in real-time reporting from the ground.

By focusing enforcement on videos of armed conflicts, X seeks to protect users seeking factual updates amid global crises while preserving the platform’s open nature for other forms of expression.

Enforcement will rely on multiple signals. Posts flagged by Community Notes or those containing detectable metadata from generative AI tools will trigger review. X emphasized that the system will evolve as detection technologies improve, ensuring the platform remains a trusted source during critical moments.

Addressing AI “slop”

The move has drawn swift reactions across the platform. Many users and verified accounts praised the decision, noting the increasing difficulty in distinguishing AI “slop” from authentic footage. Others suggested extending similar scrutiny to recycled old videos or misleading context added to unrelated clips.

Supporters argue the policy strikes a necessary balance between combating manipulation and avoiding overly broad censorship.

For creators, the update serves as a clear reminder: transparency is now a prerequisite for monetization when covering sensitive conflict-related topics. Those using AI tools for commentary, satire, or artistic purposes are encouraged to label their work explicitly to avoid penalties.

This policy revision reflects X’s broader commitment to platform integrity in an era of sophisticated synthetic media. As AI capabilities advance, the company pledged to continue refining both its rules and detection systems.

The goal remains straightforward—delivering a Timeline where users can access information with greater confidence, especially when the stakes are highest.
