Arattai sets itself apart with features specifically tailored for the Indian market. Notably, it enables conversations via usernames rather than mobile numbers, prioritizes privacy, and even introduces an Android TV version, a capability WhatsApp currently does not offer.
Multi-device support and group calls further enhance its utility. The app’s privacy-first approach ensures user data isn’t shared with advertisers, and chat encryption (though full end-to-end encryption is still in development) demonstrates a commitment to safeguarding user information.

However, the path to long-term dominance remains challenging. While Arattai’s user base is growing exponentially, surpassing one million downloads, it is still dwarfed by WhatsApp’s reach in India, which exceeds 500 million users.

Strategic government support, combined with Zoho’s established reputation in global software, gives these platforms a real chance to disrupt the status quo. By creating Arattai, Zoho is tapping into this underserved segment, offering a solution that could democratize digital communication for millions of people.
