The ever tall BP.BVM, Civil Lines branch Nagpur ‘Because’ foundation matters..
While the world now knows Divya Deshmukh as one of India’s brightest chess prodigies, few recognize the silent role her alma mater “Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Bhagwandas Purohit Vidya Mandir, Civil Lines, Nagpur”, played in shaping her journey.
From her early school years, Bhavan’s provided Divya with a nurturing academic environment that respected her unconventional path. It’s a proud moment for the teaching staff of BVM too, who nurtured the little Divya once into what she is now. It just didn’t happen in a day… Years of support and guidance of school teachers along with the principal paved the way in grooming the little girl to become what she is now.

The very name Divya Deshmukh, Woman grand master and a force to reckon with, brings so many memories to my mind. A tiny girl moving to her class with determination and confidence, a quiet and calm girl who made rapid progress in the world of chess…A girl who maintained golden balance between play and studies.
Recalls Mrs. Anju Bhutani ex-Principal BP.BVM, Civil Lines, Nagpur.
“She tasted victory when she was very young and exemplified the quote, “Nothing succeeds like success.” But she remained rooted to ground and never had any airs about her. A simple girl, she was always focused. I remember her shy smile when she brought accolades to school, her parents and of course to herself.” She further adds.
“Her eyes always shone bright with resolution to make it big. And today she has made it indeed big. Her teachers always helped her, guided her and ensured that all her academic related work was complete. Emotionally, morally and spiritually, the school was always with her.” adds the ex-Principal madam.
I particularly admire her parents viz. Dr Jitendra Deshmukh and Dr Namrata Deshmukh who stood behind Divya…Perhaps we all can learn vital lessons from them on good parenting.
