Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat Faces Crisis: Modi’s Unity Pitch
Echoing the pandemic spirit, the PM links national unity to India’s security and economic future.
Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat Faces Crisis: Modi’s Unity Pitch. In a recent address to the Indian Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to all parties and citizens to rise above politics and unite for the nation’s larger interests, especially in the face of global turbulence linked to the West Asia crisis. Echoing the spirit of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat”, he framed unity not as a political slogan but as an essential survival and growth strategy for 140 crore Indians.

Tone of the speech
Modi reminded MPs that India’s democracy is being tested by external shocks—oil‑price volatility, supply‑chain disruptions, and security concerns—while stressing that discord in Parliament only deepens the public’s mistrust.
He called for constructive debate instead of disruption, urging both ruling party and opposition to treat Parliament as a “temple of solutions” rather than a battleground of slogans.
His language mixed national pride with urgency, repeatedly invoking the pandemic‑era “collective resolve” when Indians had stood together despite fear and uncertainty.

Call for unity “like during the pandemic”
The Prime Minister drew a direct parallel between the COVID‑19 crisis and the current geopolitical situation, asking citizens and institutions to stay “ready, alert and united” as they did in 2020–21.
He warned that external actors and divisive elements might exploit the crisis, so internal cohesion—between Centre and states, government and citizens, and across communities—became the first line of defence.
Law‑enforcement and security machinery, he said, are already on high alert along coasts, borders, cyber‑networks, and strategic installations, but their success would depend on public discipline and cooperation.

Economic and social reassurance
Modi assured the House that the government has built buffers—adequate fuel and fertiliser stocks, diversified energy imports, and over 75,000 Indian evacuees already brought home—to minimise impact on farmers, households, and businesses.
At the same time, he framed unity as the precondition for achieving the “Viksit Bharat by 2047” vision, tying social harmony to economic stability, infrastructure push, and technological self‑reliance.
In essence, Modi’s Parliament address is less about a new policy package and more about a moral compact: a plea that, in turbulent times, the nation’s strength must come from unity, caution, and collective sacrifice rather than partisan one‑upmanship.
