Meet Mrs. Jyoti Semarsariya Pillay, a Tamil Acamedician, born in Nagpur who is also a Faculty and Dean at G H Raisoni Skill Tech University, Nagpur. She teaches Entrepreneurship Development to undergraduate and postgraduate management students. Many know her as the founder of HERBAL ADDA!
Why wear multiple caps? She replies, ‘This subject has always fascinated me, fueling my aspirations of becoming an entrepreneur myself.’
In June 2020, she enrolled herself in Massive Open Online Courses, also known as MOOC which provide access to courses taught by leading universities and experts.
‘While exploring various options in entrepreneurship, I fortuitously discovered WSP 3.0 by NSRCEL, IIM Bangalore.’
The incubation and startup hub at IIM Bangalore, initiates the Women Startup Program (WSP) 3.0 aiming to support ambitious and innovative women entrepreneurs by enhancing their entrepreneurial and managerial skills, and transforming their ideas into business ventures.
And thus began the foundation for the entrepreneurial journey.
Herbal medicine caffe was conceived!
She recalls, ‘The course was rigorous, demanding immense dedication and effort. One of our key assignments
was to propose ten business ideas, from which we had to refine and pursue one. A pivotal session by Prof. Nagraja Prakasam (Resident Mentor, NSRCEL IIMB) further influenced my decision. ‘Play with your strength,’ a statement that resonated deeply with me,’ says Dr. Pillay.
Upon seeking advice from her life partner Mr. Vinod Samseriya, she came across the idea of Herbal Adda.
Herbal Adda – The Herbal Café!
Herbal Adda was influenced from Mr. Vinod Samseriya and his 39 years of vast expertise as a naturopathy practitioner, Zumba instructor, fitness and health coach, and most importantly, a staunch advocate of Ayurveda and ancient Indian medicinal wisdom. Over the years, he shared his herbal concoctions with his students, effectively addressing health concerns such as weight
management, diabetes, cholesterol, and PCOD.
Dr. Jyoti emphasized that her faith in these natural remedies deepened when she successfully reversed her hypothyroidism, for which she was previously taking 100mg of medication on a daily basis. And for the last nine years, she is completely medication-free. And to further test the effectiveness, she challenged her husband to help her to reverse her post- pregnancy weight..
