The marriage looked like any other. The bride was Namrata Nannaware, a tribal girl and a post graduate in Sociology. The groom was Roshan Meshram, a youth running his tailoring business. But, the doctor couple who had arranged the ceremony looked quite young, to be the parents of the bride.
Dr Madhavi Khode – Chaware, an MBBS and an IAS, currently the divisional commissioner of Nagpur and her husband Dr Suresh Chaware, the renowned plastic surgeon have elder son Siddharth studying in standard tenth only and younger Samradnya in standard fourth. Both the kids looked involved in the ceremony, watching the elder sister getting married. A sister, they had shared their love and belongings with. A foster sister, they weren’t aware of, till a few years ago.
Some of those who know the family, shared the background story with us, for the readers of indiainput.com :
A student of BA first year who had lost both her parents, the tribal girl Namrata Nannaware had come to the family, as a domestic help, in 2016. She was referred to them by someone. But, that wasn’t all.
A few days later, after she had settled in, the doctor couple, as they did with all their staff, asked the girl about her family and herself. It was then, that they came to know about her turbulent past. Born to farm labourer parents in village Kuhi, near Nagpur, the bright girl had lost her father when she was just ten. Her mother had then decided to take her responsibility by putting in more effort to earn a livelihood herself and let her study. The sincere girl Namrata had made her mother proud by passing the examination for standard twelfth with flying colors. She had then got herself enrolled for an undergraduate course, the Bachelor of Arts first year.
However, as luck would have it, the unfortunate girl lost her mother too. There was no one who could come forward to assure her some hope or take her responsibility. This meant, she was now left all alone in this big world to fend for herself and take her own care. Whatever hope left in her life had completely disappeared and the future looked bleak.
Her painful story brought tears to their eyes. The couple, then and there, made a decision. This was to take her as their daughter.
Most importantly, both the children, not to be left behind in this initiative by their parents, took her happily as their own elder sister. The moment changed the lives. More so for Namrata, who realized that suddenly she was not an orphan, any more. She now had a family with foster parents and younger siblings.
Her new parents decided to let her study. They focused on her education and the best in grooming.
Not a maid anymore, the girl happily accepted her new family, decided not to let them down and returned to what she always longed to do, her studies. She completed graduation in Economics and then her PG in Sociology with a nice score. The parents asked about her likes and wishes for the future. Then they found her a nice groom and got her married.
Way of life !
Dr Suresh Chaware and his IAS wife are already known for their sensitive nature and such humane services to the society. Dr Madhavi Khode- Chaware is known to give a patient hearing to the needy, took efforts to find an out of the box solution to help as many as could be, even sensitizing the government machinery time and again, to be more sensible and humane. There have been instances from her tenure as collector or while heading the tribal welfare projects. However, seeing both of them take official leave from their respective work and get involved in the nitty-gritties of an Indian wedding in their family, was a new experience, admit people close to them.
Moreover, the matching behavior of the two school going kids, who had opened their arms and belongings to share with their new found dear elder sis ‘taai’ was nothing short of truly remarkable, exclaim those who have seen it all.
A real life example, of how humanity and a bit of magnanimity can make a world of difference in the needy lives around. Kudos to the family for walking the talk and setting up a shining example of how a devastated life can be rebuilt by a sensitive, humane approach along with love, care & support.
