#Hyderabad Liberation day:Sardar Patel Crushes Razakars Terror
Sardar Patel’s iron resolve and Operation Polo ended the Nizam’s defiance and freed Hyderabad from Razakar tyranny.

#Hyderabad Liberation day: Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Crushes #Razakars Terror. On September 17, 1948, Hyderabad, one of India’s largest princely states, was freed from the grip of the Nizam and his private militia, the Razakars. The state’s liberation was not merely a military victory but a defining moment in India’s national integration, shaped by the firm resolve of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
After independence in 1947, most princely states acceded to India. The Nizam of Hyderabad, however, refused to join, dreaming of sovereignty. The Razakars, a private militia, called for the Hyderabad state to either join Pakistan or to become a Muslim dominion while resisting its merger with the Union of India.
Backed by the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, the Razakars under Kasim Razvi unleashed terror across the state. They indulged in mass violence—plundering villages, abducting women, enforcing conversions, and massacring dissenters. Their reign of fear turned Hyderabad into a cauldron of communal hatred, making peaceful negotiation increasingly impossible.

As India’s Home Minister, Patel saw Hyderabad’s defiance as a threat to national unity. Patient at first, he tried persuasion, but the Nizam’s evasions and Razakars atrocities hardened his stance. Razakars unleashed terror – killings, loot, forced conversions.
With his characteristic clarity, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel declared that no “independent pockets” could be allowed within India.

When lawlessness peaked, he ordered Operation Polo – a 5-day lightning strike by the Indian Army a swift “police action” launched on September 13, 1948. In just five days, the Indian Army overran Hyderabad, defeating the Razakars and forcing the Nizam to surrender – crushed Razakar terror & ended Nizam’s rule. On Sept 17, 1948, the tricolor finally fluttered high in Hyderabad— to surrender.
Telangana villagers stood up with ploughs as weapons! Their spirit tells us: freedom is priceless, courage unstoppable.
Never forget never forgive.!!

The integration of Hyderabad stands as one of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel’s greatest triumphs. It not only ended the brutal tyranny of the Razakars but also ensured that India remained a united, secular republic. Hyderabad Liberation Day is a reminder of Patel’s iron will and the resilience of the people who endured untold suffering before freedom arrived.
