Masking his obvious political agenda as ‘Comedy’ as well as ‘Criticism’ & ‘Fun’, he has built his career by mostly attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his party, BJP. He now appears to have chosen a fresh target in Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, by calling him a ‘traitor’. However, on the floor of Maharashtra legislature, the chief minister Devendra Fadnavis was quick to point out the electoral success achieved by the Shinde led Shiv Sena and received applause as he asked, “..Is Kamra above the Maharashtra voters’ mandate?”

#Kamra began trending this week as the social media platform X witnessed a floodgate of posts, memes and comments. All this due to the political slugfest caused as the 36 years old self styled comedian #KunalKamra went overboard during a rendition (or performance) in Mumbai and called the former Maharashtra chief minister and the present deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde a ‘traitor’ (the term he used was ‘Gaddar’). The Shiv Sena workers or ‘Shivsainiks’ went on rampage damaging the studio and the stage of Kamra’s performance.
An unrelented Kamra wrote on X and Instagram stating that he refuses to apologize for his remarks and he will not bow down to the mob that’s targeting him.

Apparently, the term ‘traitor’ was used in reference to the rebellion by Shinde in June 2022, that had left the Uddhav Thackeray led faction in turmoil and out of power. Eknath Shinde had defended his action by saying he wanted to return to the party founder Balasaheb Thackeray’s ideology. His rebellion caused the Maha Aghadi government in Maharashtra to collapse, paving way to a Maha Yuti government constituted by the BJP alongwith the Shinde faction of the Shiv Sena. The new government thus formed was led by Shinde himself as the CM, thus making the Uddhav Thackeray led faction’s turmoil even sourer. Since then, Shinde’s faction has been on the gaining side.. it has received the election commission’s nod as the original Shiv Sena, the party symbol and has attracted more defectors from the Uddhav Thackeray led Sena, across the state. On the performance side, the Shinde-Fadnavis government put the state back on development track and pushing up the growth factors as Bravehearts of economy.
Post the rebellion, Shinde was labelled as ‘Gaddar’ or a ‘traitor’. The Maharashtra elections in 2024 were touted as a test by fire to decide the the real original party. The public rallies by Uddhav Thackeray led faction had witnessed war cries and appeals ‘to teach the rebels a lesson’. The voters verdict, in state assembly polls 2024, went heavily in Eknath Shinde’s favour. His Shiv Sena contested 81 seats and won 57 while Uddhav Thackeray led Sena (UBT Sena)contested 95 seats and won 20.
