Mass Naxalite Surrender in Heartland : Signals Dawn of Peace. In a historic breakthrough toward peace and development, over 250 Naxalites surrendered across Gadchiroli in Maharashtra and the Dandakaranya region of Chhattisgarh, marking a decisive blow to Left-Wing Extremism.

Among them was Mallojula Venugopal Rao, alias Bhupathi or Sonu, a top CPI (Maoist) leader with a reward of ₹1 crore, who laid down arms along with 60 cadres in Gadchiroli, surrendering a large cache of weapons including AK-47 and INSAS rifles.

In Dandakaranya’s North Bastar, 170 Maoists, including several senior operatives, joined the mainstream under the Centre’s Naxal Eradication and Rehabilitation Policy 2025, aimed at combining security operations with social reintegration measures. The mass surrender led Union Home Minister Amit Shah to declare Abujhmarh and North Bastar “Naxal-free zones” for the first time in decades.

Dates:

In Gadchiroli, senior commander Mallojula Venugopal Rao (alias Bhupathi) and 60 cadres surrendered on October 13–14, 2025.

In Dandakaranya (including North Bastar and Abujhmarh), 170–210 Maoists surrendered on October 15–16, 2025, as various reports highlighted coordinated efforts across Chhattisgarh.

Surrender Numbers:

In total, over 250 Naxalites surrendered across Gadchiroli and Dandakaranya in this period—Gadchiroli saw 61 surrenders including Bhupathi, with 170–210 additional surrenders in the Dandakaranya region.

Weapons Surrendered:

Surrendered arms in Gadchiroli included 13 AK-47 rifles, 3 INSAS rifles, four .303 rifles, two carbines, one SLR, several country-made weapons, and a large amount of ammunition and explosives.

In Dandakaranya, hundreds of firearms (including automatic rifles, pistols, and shotguns) as well as improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and ammunition were handed over to authorities.
