Just the way smartphones are more than just traditional phones, the smart lenses are more than just the lenses. Smart sunglasses are able to change their optical properties or the light filtering properties by using liquid crystal technology, at runtime. In other words, they are wearable computer glasses that add information to the vision. that is, what the wearer sees. The smart glasses visualize information using AR, that is Augmented Reality or MR, that is Mixed Reality methods. This can mean a virtual image being seen at the front and the real image in the background. The smart glasses also posses features found in a smartphone to enable the user to use it somewhat as a mobile smart phone. These can run self contained mobile apps. These may also use sensors, collect information, control or retrieve data, send or receive files and support wireless technologies like Bluetooth, WiFi and GPS. Welcome to the ‘Smart glasses era’ In collaboration with Ray Ban, Facebook had launched smart glasses. But these were not launched in India. Snapchat has also announced smart glasses under the title Spectacles. These are available on e commerce sites like Flipkart. Both these products have a camera and are way more expensive but, Titan EyeX doesn’t have a camera and is comparatively not expensive. But, since these all are smart glasses, they need to be charged like smartphones.
All in all, the era of smart glasses has just arrived and has already begun getting more interesting.
