Social media writing? Check out these do’s & don’ts first. These are the basic essentials, to stay on the right side of the law. And stay clear of the unwanted stress that threatens to follow, if you don’t.. Without going much on to the introduction part, lets straight way head to the check list. Here are the Do’s ..
Fact Check before you post ..
If you have finished writing something, the urge to immediately click the post button is strong and sometimes overcomes you. However, you must resist the temptation to see your post published, before you fact check the contents.
Please do not forget, if you are sharing misinformation, unknowingly or deliberately, you may soon land in trouble.
Check that no rights or laws are infringed ..
Before you click the post button, you must also ensure that the contents do not infringe any laws of the land or anyone’s rights. The content is not harmful or offending to any person or set of persons or a community. If you have to write, check the facts first and use a language that is positive and in the best interests of the society, the nation and the humanity as a whole.
Give credits..
Its safer to use your own visual works (images, videos, illustrations, sketches, art pieces or quotes). Better to ensure that you own the rights before using the media works.
Check if you have the rights of these images, illustrations, art pieces, videos or quotes, If you must post these. If you don’t have, you must remember to give credits where they are due. Its better to always tag the creators or mention them in your posts.
It is always best to use the free images, video clips, art works etc. The free to use images or video clips are available on various sites on the internet.
In case, its for a company or brand..
And remember, if you are posting on behalf of a company or brand, as an employee or an associate, you must ensure that your post and the contents therein, are in accordance with the company or brand’s policies, values, interests and public stands.
And here are the Don’ts..
No sensitive content..
If you plan to post sensitive content in text, audio, images or videos.. think again. It’s safer not to upload sensitive contents, especially images and videos. This is because, the AI tools are most likely to store them or even misuse your personal sensitive content. Beware of the AI tools.
Its almost never private..
Yes, it is better to be safe than repenting in leisure. Never assume that the content or the media work that you post is going to remain private, even if it claims so. Even if it claims that the photos are media works are deleted, the chances are, they may be stored elsewhere. And may fall prey to the ever prying AI tools. For safety’s sake, just keep reminding yourself, that it almost never stays private.
Don’t skip this..
Although it is tiresome and time consuming, DON’T SKIP THE FINE PRINT. Or else, your data may be used elsewhere or shared with the third parties. Even, it can be used to train the Artificial Intelligence.
