SC procedure on Delhi–NCR Stray Dogs

#Supreme Court big rebuke of animal activists and dog lovers shielding stray dogs in the country.

“Will these animal activists and dog lovers bring back the children who have been affected by rabies?” Supreme Court Judge Justice JB Pardiwala asks.

Supreme Court says the situation is EXTREMELY SERIOUS, authorities should “start picking up the stray dogs from public parks and other public places so that children and senior citizens can be safe”.

Supreme Court directs MCD to create dog shelters for at least 5000 stray dogs in the next 6-8 weeks. Supreme Court says authorities should create a special force to tackle with this issue, if required.

Supreme Court says — “If any individual or organization comes in the way of authorities picking up the stray dogs, we will take action against them”.

“Any hindrance or obstruction caused by any person will be taken as contempt of court” says Justice Pardiwala. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta says the government will implement these directions immediately.

“We are unable to see the helplessness in the eyes of the parents when children die in their lap” says SG Tushar Mehta.

#SupremeCourt Steps In: Big Changes Coming for Delhi–NCR’s Stray Dog Problem

The Supreme Court has called Delhi–NCR’s stray dog situation “extremely grim” and has ordered urgent action so that no stray is left uncared for and no person falls victim to rabies again.

Here’s what will happen next:

Mass Sterilization Drive – 5,000 stray dogs will be caught and sterilised within the next six weeks.
New Shelters – Safe homes for the dogs must be built within eight weeks so they are no longer living on the streets.
24×7 Helpline – A helpline will be up within one week. Any complaint will have to be acted on within four hours.
Daily Records & Vaccines – Authorities must keep daily records of dogs caught, sterilised, and vaccinated, and make sure there’s always enough vaccine in stock.
Strict Action Against Obstruction – Anyone stopping or interfering with this process will face strict penalties.

Rabies is deadly but 100% preventable through vaccination. The Court’s move aims to protect both people and animals—ensuring public safety while also giving stray dogs proper care, shelter, and medical attention.
