#TRF Designated ‘Terrorist Group’ by the U.S. State Department
India Applauds U.S. Action, Citing It as a Step Toward Global Counter-terrorism Efforts

#TRF designated as a terrorist group by the U.S. State Department, India welcomes the decision. In a major development that strengthens global counterterrorism efforts, the United States has officially designated The Resistance Front (TRF) as a Foreign Terrorist Organization on 17July 2025. While the name might sound like a local political movement, TRF is anything but that. Behind its carefully crafted image lies a network with deep ties to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT)—the same Pakistan-based group responsible for the #PAHALGAM TERRORIST ATTACK 2025 and 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.

#TRF emerged in 2019, shortly after the Indian government revoked Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. It presented itself as a homegrown, secular resistance to Indian governance in the region. But intelligence reports and investigations quickly revealed its true nature: a rebranded terror outfit backed, trained, and armed by LeT and its handlers across the border.

The U.S. designation adds significant pressure. It not only bans any support or funding to the group but also freezes any assets under U.S. jurisdiction. More importantly, it sends a global signal: groups like TRF, no matter how cleverly disguised, cannot escape scrutiny.
India has strongly welcomed the U.S. decision. In an official statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) described the designation as a “clear acknowledgement of the threat posed by Pakistan-backed terrorist groups” and a “step in the right direction” for international counterterrorism efforts.

India welcomed the move, calling it a validation of its long-standing warnings about Pakistan-backed terror. It also reflects the deepening strategic partnership between India and the U.S., especially in the realm of counterterrorism.

The Resistance Front (TRF): Unmasking a New Face of Terrorism
The Resistance Front (TRF) is a terrorist organization that emerged in 2019 in Jammu and Kashmir, and is widely believed to be a front group for the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). It was created to give militancy in Kashmir a seemingly indigenous and secular face, aiming to deflect international scrutiny from LeT and Pakistan’s direct involvement in terrorism in India
TRF is considered a proxy of Lashkar-e-Taiba, which is a UN-designated terrorist organization responsible for numerous attacks in India, including the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
TRF has claimed responsibility for multiple attacks on Indian security forces, political leaders, and civilians in Jammu and Kashmir. It is also known for carrying out targeted killings, especially of non-local workers, Kashmiri Pandits, and political activists.
Tactics and Propaganda:
TRF uses social media platforms and encrypted apps to spread propaganda and recruit militants. It promotes an anti-India narrative, attempting to present itself as a local resistance movement rather than an externally-supported terror outfit.
Motivation Behind Its Formation:
Intelligence agencies believe that TRF was formed to circumvent the global scrutiny on Pakistani terror groups after LeT, Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), and others were internationally sanctioned. The name “The Resistance Front” was intended to appear more secular and political, distancing it from the explicitly Islamic names of older terror outfits.

In 2023, India declared TRF a terrorist organization under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).And in 2024, the United States designated TRF as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, further legitimizing international concerns about its operations and links to Pakistan-backed terrorism.
