Why Macron Says India Will Own the AI Future
One Mumbai street vendor’s phone payment tells the whole story
Why Macron Says India Will Own the AI Future. French President Emmanuel Macron, during his address at the AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi, underscored India’s transformative journey in digital adaptation and its emerging dominance in artificial intelligence (AI). Speaking on February 19, 2026, Macron highlighted how India has defied skeptics by integrating 1.4 billion people into a robust digital economy, a feat he described as unprecedented.

He pointed to the “India Stack”—an open, interoperable, and sovereign digital infrastructure that includes digital identities, a payment system processing 20 billion transactions monthly, and health IDs for 500 million citizens—as a global benchmark for inclusive technology.

Macron emphasized India’s extensive adaptability, noting that just a decade ago, the world doubted India’s ability to digitize its massive population. “Ten years ago, a street vendor in Mumbai could not open a bank account; today, money is deposited directly on their phone via digital transactions,” he said, illustrating how everyday citizens, from urban vendors to rural farmers, have embraced digital tools.
This widespread adoption, driven by initiatives like UPI and Aadhaar, has not only fostered financial inclusion but also positioned India as a leader in practical, scalable tech solutions. Macron credited this resilience to India’s innovative spirit under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, proving naysayers wrong and inspiring global digital strategies.

Turning to the future of AI, Macron asserted that India is at the forefront, combining innovation with responsibility. He lauded India’s sovereign AI initiatives and the Indo-French roadmap for AI collaboration, aimed at addressing risks like deepfakes while harnessing opportunities for humanity. “The future of AI will be built by those who combine innovation and responsibility. Technology with humanity,” Macron stated, pledging France’s partnership with India to shape an ethical AI landscape.
French President Emmanuel Macron says-
“CEO of Alphabet is Indian.
CEO of Microsoft is Indian.
CEO of IBM is Indian.
CEO of Adobe is Indian.
CEO of Palo Alto Networks is Indian.
CEO of Chanel is Indian.
India doesn’t just participate in global innovation; India leads it” pic.twitter.com/FZINhMMgr2— BhikuMhatre (@MumbaichaDon) February 18, 2026
To underscore India’s global leadership, Macron listed prominent Indian-origin CEOs steering major corporations: “The CEO of Alphabet is Indian. The CEO of Microsoft is Indian. The CEO of IBM is Indian. The CEO of Adobe is Indian. The CEO of Palo Alto Networks is Indian. The CEO of Chanel is Indian.” He concluded emphatically, “India doesn’t just participate in global innovation; India leads it.”

This recognition highlights the diaspora’s impact, with leaders like Sundar Pichai (Alphabet), Satya Nadella (Microsoft), Arvind Krishna (IBM), Shantanu Narayen (Adobe), Nikesh Arora (Palo Alto Networks), and Leena Nair (Chanel) exemplifying Indian talent’s influence across tech, software, cybersecurity, and even luxury fashion.
Macron’s remarks not only celebrate India’s achievements but also signal deeper Indo-French ties in AI, defense, and sustainable development. As AI reshapes economies, India’s model of inclusive, adaptive innovation offers lessons for the world, fostering collaborations that prioritize people, planet, and progress. This summit marks a pivotal moment, where India’s digital prowess paves the way for a responsible technological future.
