Nagpur, in a city where sports has long been a male-dominated space, eight visionary women from MIHAN joined together to change the game. Yoddha Club, a women-led sports initiative, was all set to host the first-ever Women’s Box Cricket Tournament of MIHAN on February 21st, 22nd, and 23rd, 2025, at DPS MIHAN School.
The tournament wasn’t just about cricket; But a movement for women’s empowerment and fitness, proving that sports can be a unifying force for women from all walks of life.
Yoddha Club Hits a Six with Successful Women’s Box Cricket Tournament

The Yoddha Club, founded by Vedanti, a passionate advocate for women’s empowerment through sports, has been at the forefront of promoting women’s cricket in the region. Alongside co-founders Archana, Dhanashree, Janhavi, Rajashree, Sakshi, Kamini, and Roma have worked tirelessly to create a platform for women cricketers aimed to showcase their skills and compete at the highest level.
A Women’s Box Cricket Tournament Unlike Any Other
With 20 teams registered, this event shaped up to be a grand celebration of community spirit. It’s diverse line-up made the tournament special—the players are not professional cricketers but everyday women who balance careers and families while making time for fitness.

“The participants were housewives, doctors, teachers, advocates, and even policewomen for this tournament. Thus representing the true spirit of women’s strength. The aim was to awaken every woman in Nagpur to see and realize that fitness is for everyone,” said Archana, one of the founding members of Yoddha Club. Similar sentiments are echoed by her fellow co-founders, who strongly assert this as not just a game but a statement—women belong in sports, too.
A Community-Backed Initiative
This tournament has garnered massive support from local businesses and organizations. DPS MIHAN School came forward as the venue partner, while Garagewale, Lalit Khemchand Group, and Natural Fresh Ice Cream have stepped in as main sponsors. Radio City FM joined as the official radio partner, amplifying the reach of this empowering message. The event was also supported by Kukreja Infrastructure, Tranquillo Club, and several co-sponsors.
This endeavor fetched some of the biggest brands in the region as sponsors. One of them, Kukreja Group stated.. “Kukreja Group is honoured to back the talented women of Yoddha Club, promoting sportsmanship, sisterhood, and inspiring a brighter future!”
Yoddha Club has expressed its gratitude to its sponsors, including Garagewalle, Lalit Khemchand Group, Natural Fresh Ice Cream, Tranquillo Club, Kukreja Infrastructures, Airport Centrepoint Hotel, India Sports, Prince Sports, Shivam Food, Nandaji Supermart and Jai Baba Medicose. Radio City FM was the radio partner for the event. Sponsors also expressed their commitment to women’s empowerment through sports. “Just like in sports, where women break boundaries and set records, we want to ensure they move freely and confidently in their daily journeys,” said Garagewale. Tranquillo Club, known for bringing people together, adds, “Sports, like great conversations over a drink, unite communities and foster equality.” Aaradhya Jewellers further supports the movement, stating, “Women who shine on the field deserve to shine everywhere, which is why we proudly support this tournament.” Lalit Khemchand Group echoes the sentiment, saying, “Supporting women in sports means supporting a stronger, healthier future for all. We are honored to be part of this journey.”

To make the event even more exciting, Mrs. Khushali Mhaisalkar, an international women’s football player from Nagpur was invited as the chief guest . Also, Ms. Ekta Yedalwar from MADC shared her journey, offering motivation and insight into the world of professional sports. “Meeting a woman who has made it to the international level inspired young girls to see sports as a real career option,” said Dhanashree, one of the co-founders.
This Event was an Open Invitation to Nagpur’s Women & their Families
Yoddha Club extended invitation to women from across the city to attend the event with their families. Beyond competitive matches, the tournament aimed to inspire women to embrace fitness and break stereotypes.
“Whether you’re 25 or 55, it’s never too late to take charge of your health,” said Vedanti the founder and backbone of Yoddha club. Rajashree added, “This is more than cricket; it’s about reclaiming our space in sports and proving that women belong on the field just as much as men do.”
Roma, and Kamini collectively emphasize, “We are building a community where women feel confident engaging in sports. This event was about friendships, empowerment, and proving that fitness has no age or gender.”

This tournament was just the beginning. Yoddha Club envisioned a series of sporting events for women, creating a platform for fitness, bonding, and personal growth. “We shall keep organizing such tournaments so that more women feel encouraged to step onto the field,” added Sakshi and Janhavi.
On February 21st-23rd, the cricket pitch at DPS MIHAN School witnessed the power, energy, and resilience of Nagpur’s women.
The event was graced by several distinguished guests, including Shrimati Padma Verma, a renowned yogasan teacher; Ms. Ekta Yadalwar, a seasoned aviation specialist from MADC; Wing Commander Aasha Yadav, a distinguished Technical Officer in the Indian Air Force; Mrs. Khushali Darbeshwar Mhaiasalkar, is the international football player; Dr. Revati Sabale, Additional District Health Officer, Nagpur Public Health Department and Disha Yadav, CEO, Airport Centre Point. Shri Ulhas Mohile from Tranquillo Club, MIHAN, was also present at the event.
The tournament saw participation from teams from various parts of the city, including Shankar Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, Mankapur, Godhni, Ajni, Ravi Nagar, and MIHAN.
Golden Wings emerged as the champions, with Dhoni 7 and SportBuds securing the runners-up and second runners-up spots, respectively. Anam Mukkadam from Dhoni 7 was declared the Best Batter, while Radhika Pimpalgaonkar from SportBuds team was awarded the Best Bowler title.
Over 1000 participants and spectators from across Nagpur witnessed the action over the 3 days, and got inspired!!
