Interior Designing can transform by Arches & Curves!

Interior Designing is evolving like never before with the influx of new creative minds experimenting a lot via ‘out of the box’ ideas & concepts. One such couple is Pune based Muktta and Alok Arora. More about their ideas, plans & Muktta Arora Designs..

“The prevailing trends in interior designing are really wonderful to say the least. Especially the introduction of the Arches n curves in ways more than one. We recently did this 3bhk where we incorporated arches from the very entrance.. to the tv unit and the mandir and it received nice response. Even in ceiling we gave soft curves on the ends which give a distinct look,” says Muktta Arora, an interior designer who never stops experimenting, on her latest works.

She also talks about Minimalism, “We love to do interiors In this theme because of the emphasis on simplicity and functionality. In this theme we play with clean lines and monochromatic palette with Color used only as accent. This theme is very similar to modern theme.. and we use the negative space which means putting up furniture only where it’s needed in design, plus keeping emptiness in the area to create an uncluttered space.”

The couple also has various ideas on adding greens – biophilic design, on Multi purpose furniture & Multi functional space.

Interior design is the art and science of enhancing the interior of a building to achieve a healthier and more aesthetically pleasing environment for the people using the space. Born and brought up in Nagpur, Maharashtra to a service background family, Muktta’s mother Mrs. Anita Chaddha, is a well known former school teacher from Nagpur and father Mr. Mukesh Chaddha retired as the deputy director in JNARDDC. Mukta is an Ex- student of Bhavans B.P Vidya Mandir and graduated in BID [Bachelor in Interior Designing] from LAD (Lady Amritbai Daga) college, Nagpur.  She completed her internship in Bangalore under a renowned firm Satish Naik and Associates; Architect Ranjit Naik gave her the much needed exposure, guidance and experience in the field of Interior Designing.

She moved to Pune post marriage with Alok Arora, and together they started the venture under the name of Muktta Arora Designs in 2017-18.

She reflects back on the journey, “Initially, I had plans to do basic graduation and then go for MBA as I didn’t have clear vision what would suit me the best. But thanks to Mrs. Harsha Jharia, Vice-Principal, LAD college who [also happened to be a teacher to my mother] asked me to pursue a professional degree course in Interior Designing. It was a very new field and new course at that time wherein, LAD college had only 30 seats to offer. When I appeared for the creativity test of LAD college, I finished as a topper thus kicking off my journey to become an Interior Designer. I graduated as a Bachelor in Interior design after completing the Four years degree course.”

So what was the starting point? Muktta replies, “I always had in my mind that I wanted to have my own business. Despite my family being in service background, my parents were very supportive. After my marriage to Alok, he and my mother-in-law – Late Mrs. Kirti Arora supported me a lot and asked me to start my own venture. Even in situations where I felt too young and inexperienced to take up a project, he was always there, and he asked me to give it a shot. “she pauses to add, ” I am good at designing and giving life to a space but all those designing on paper and software’s, it needed implementation on sites with proper coordination between vendors and project management. This is where my husband filled in the void and took up the job for management of the projects. Without Alok, this wouldn’t have been possible. They say, behind every successful man, there is always a woman; But in my case it’s the opposite. Alok was and is always there for me to motivate me and boost my confidence whenever required. The best part is that we get to turn peoples dream into reality. The satisfaction that we get after seeing our client’s reaction is unmatched. It is never boring for us because we face new challenges in every project and that’s what makes our journey more exciting and adventurous.”

Upon being asked about any major struggles or hiccups she came across? Muktta answers, ” Initially when we started our firm, we being very young and in-experienced, people had trust issues. We tried to go an extra mile for the clients which led to the clients exploiting our services and even in monetary terms. But as they rightfully say, Experience is simply the name we give it to our mistakes. We learnt from our mistakes and kept evolving ourselves. One can never stop learning and we are proud that we keep learning every single day.”

On their USP & future plans, Muktta shares,” Our hands on approach while doing any project makes us get into minuscule detail and get the best out of the space. So, that’s the USP. Our Goal is to build a renowned name in offering Interior Designing services. We have started taking projects outside Pune, have already successfully completed projects in Mumbai and Manchar. we’re getting nice feedback and enquiries, so yes, the future plan is to keep expanding to other cities.”

For the aspiring architects and designers, Muktta offers a suggestion, “Pursue a career in the field you are passionate about and you won’t have to work even a single day. Because, work becomes pleasure then. Life is an evolving process so keep learning, upgrading yourselves.”
