The Science Behind the Success
The “Plas-Stick” solution is as ingenious as it is simple. Tamarind seeds, often treated as agricultural waste, possess natural binding properties. The students discovered that when a specially prepared powder from these seeds is added to contaminated water, it acts as a magnet for microplastic particles, causing them to bind together into larger, visible clumps.
These clumps can then be easily extracted using a handheld magnet, leaving the water significantly cleaner.
