Behind Every Weave Lies a Struggle
Behind every exquisite sari, shawl, stole or piece of handwoven fabric is a story of patience and perseverance. Many small-scale weavers and artisans work from modest homes or small workshops, often relying on traditional looms that demand hours of painstaking effort.
Handloom production is labour-intensive. Preparing yarn, setting the loom, choosing colours, creating intricate patterns and completing the final weave can take days or even weeks. Artisans often face irregular incomes, rising raw-material costs, limited access to markets and competition from inexpensive mass-produced textiles.
For many families, weaving is not simply an occupation—it is a legacy passed from one generation to another. Yet keeping that legacy alive can be challenging when younger generations seek more stable livelihoods.
