Prime Minister Narendra Modi has presented Russian President Vladimir Putin with a Russian translation of the Thirukkural, the celebrated classical Tamil work attributed to the poet-philosopher Thiruvalluvar. It is Thirukkural, famously regarded as the Voice From Ancient Tamil Nadu. Written by Thiruvalluvar who is one of the most revered figures in Tamil literary and philosophical tradition, even today. His Thirukkural, generally regarded as a work of antiquity dating roughly two millennia or more, contains 1,330 couplets arranged in 133 chapters.
Rather than focusing on one community or one era, the text explores questions that remain relevant to human life even today.

The work is traditionally divided into three broad sections: Aram (virtue), Porul (wealth and public life), and Inbam (love).
Together, they discuss personal character, ethical conduct, leadership, social responsibility, relationships and the pursuit of a meaningful life.
Thiruvalluvar: The Philosopher of Universal Values
Thiruvalluvar’s greatness lies in the simplicity and universality of his teachings. He stresses that knowledge must be accompanied by character, wealth should be acquired and used responsibly, and those in positions of authority must govern with justice and wisdom.
His teachings repeatedly place virtue above selfish gain. Compassion, truthfulness, gratitude, self-control, humility and fairness emerge as essential qualities of a good human being.
One of the enduring ideas associated with the Thirukkural is that true greatness is not determined merely by status or wealth, but by how a person lives and treats others.
