CBSE Slashes Revaluation Fees Amid Digital Marking Outcry. In a monumental triumph for the student community, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a dramatic reduction in its post-examination revaluation and verification fees. Following intense public backlash, widespread student protests, and severe criticism on social media platforms over the newly introduced digital evaluation process, the Union Education Ministry stepped in to slash the high-priced fees to a flat 100 per service.

Verification simplified 2026
Earlier, the multi-tiered review process was an expensive nightmare for families. Affording a complete rechecking cycle was a luxury, often forcing distressed families to shell out between 5,000 to 9,000 to get multiple answer sheets reviewed.
Under the previous structure, obtaining a scanned copy of an answer sheet cost 700 per subject, while a basic verification of marks demanded an additional 500 per subject. When multiplied across four or five subjects, desperate students trying to salvage their university admissions were facing exorbitant bills.
Student welfare, transparency and fairness remain at the core of every evaluation reform.

On-Screen Marking (OSM)- digital glitches?
The crisis deepened after the declaration of the Class 12 board results, which saw an unexpected dip in scores. Outraged students blamed the newly introduced On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, citing digital glitches, light handwriting legibility errors, and careless evaluations. Over 98 lakh answer sheets were digitized this year, and the ministry admitted that at least 13,000 copies suffered from severe digital readability issues, requiring emergency manual evaluation.
Fee revision
Acknowledging the extreme financial anxiety and distress among the student community, Department of School Education and Literacy Secretary Sanjay Kumar announced the revised framework. Under the new guidelines, accessing a digital copy of the answer script will now cost a flat 100.
Verification of overall marks has also been slashed to 100, while challenging individual questions will cost just 25 per question. In an unprecedented move, the board also announced that if a student’s marks increase during the review, the entire fee will be fully refunded. This historic fee revision marks an iconic victory for suffering students, ensuring that academic justice in India is no longer restricted to those who can afford it.
