India Cracks the World Cheese Code 🏅🥈 @Mundial 2026

Four medals, one message—Indian dairy is ready for the world

India Cracks the World Cheese Code 🏅🥈 @Mundial 2026 . At a time when India’s dairy story is often told through scale, volume and cooperatives, a quieter, more refined narrative is beginning to find its voice on the global stage—one shaped by craft, terroir and ambition. That narrative gained powerful validation at the Mundial do Queijo do Brasil 2026, where Indian artisanal cheesemakers earned global recognition among the world’s finest.

Held from April 16–19 in São Paulo, the fourth edition of the prestigious competition brought together over 2,700 cheese samples from 30 countries, judged by a panel of 350 experts. Against this intensely competitive backdrop, India emerged not just as a participant, but as a serious contender.

Modern craftsmanship, Cheesy triumph🏅🥈

Leading this breakthrough was Eleftheria Cheese, which secured a remarkable three medals. Its Gulmarg Brie earned the coveted Super Gold🏅—an honour reserved for cheeses that exemplify world-class excellence.

The Brunost, inspired by Scandinavian traditions yet rooted in Indian milk, won Gold🏅, while the Kaali Miri cheese claimed Silver🥈. Each award reflects a careful balance of global technique and local identity.

Equally significant was the Gold medal 🏅won by Nordic Farm for its Yak Churpi-Soft, a product that draws from the age-old dairy traditions of Ladakh. This recognition highlights how indigenous knowledge, when refined with modern craftsmanship, can resonate with international standards.

These wins are more than just accolades—they are proof of concept. They validate the belief that India’s milk, shaped by diverse climates and ecosystems, holds untapped potential for premium cheesemaking.

From the high-altitude pastures of Ladakh to the lush valleys of Kashmir, terroir is no longer an abstract European idea; it is an emerging Indian reality.

The significance of this achievement was acknowledged at the highest level, with Narendra Modi congratulating producers Mausam Narang and Thenlay Nurboo.

His recognition underscores how artisanal dairy is becoming part of India’s broader narrative of innovation, self-reliance and global competitiveness.

Cognitive ecosystem

At its core, this victory belongs not just to brands, but to the ecosystem behind them—the dairy farmers who nurture livestock, the cheesemakers who experiment with textures and flavours, and the small teams committed to elevating Indian milk every single day. It is a story of persistence, where quiet conviction meets global validation.

Conclusion

As Indian cheeses find a place on international tasting tables, the journey is only beginning. These medals mark a milestone, not a destination. They signal that India is ready to move beyond being the world’s largest milk producer to becoming a respected name in artisanal cheesemaking—one wheel, one craft, and one story at a time.
