#GlobalGanesha: Bappa Morya Lands In U.S. Ganeshotsava. Thousands of miles from Maharashtra, the spirit of Ganeshotsav continues to thrive in the United States. In Orlando, the Marathi Mandal and Hindu Society come together every year to celebrate Ganeshotsav with devotion, music, tradition and community spirit.

Months of Preparation, Days of Celebration
In Orlando, Ganeshotsav preparations begin as early as June and July. Decoration teams, dancers, singers, bhajan groups, dhol-tasha performers and Lezim teams begin planning well in advance.
For more than 25 years, the Orlando celebration has featured a special theme. This year, the spectacular installation brought together the five elements of nature around Lord Ganesha. A volcano with fire and smoke, a cascading waterfall, mountains and a dramatic sky formed the backdrop for Bappa, creating an immersive festive experience.
Bappa Arrives With Dhol-Tasha
On Ganesh Chaturthi, Lord Ganesha arrives in a traditional rath procession, accompanied by the energetic beats of dhol-tasha and Lezim.
The idol is ceremonially installed, followed by collective prayers and aartis. Marathi families and members of the wider Indian community participate enthusiastically. Hundreds gather for prasad and community dining, turning the festival into a celebration of togetherness.
But in Orlando, Ganeshotsav does not end with the first day.
A Festival That Grows Every Evening
Even on weekdays, families come together for evening aartis. Bhajan evenings, Atharvashirsha recitations and cultural programmes keep the festive atmosphere alive.
The celebration gradually builds towards visarjan, with every evening adding another layer of devotion and community participation.
Children Become the Torchbearer
On visarjan day, Bappa is taken out in a traditional palkhi, accompanied by the chant, “Paayi halu halu chala, mukhane Gajanan bola.”
Women embrace traditional nine-yard sarees and nath jewellery, while men dress in dhotis, pheta and turbans. Dance, singing, skits and Lezim performances become offerings to the deity of knowledge and the arts.
One especially meaningful Orlando tradition is allowing children to perform the ceremonial worship. A generation born and raised in America is thus becoming an active part of preserving Indian traditions.
A Home Away From Home
The Orlando temple and community hall have become an important gathering place for the Indian community. The temple has welcomed distinguished visitors, including former President Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam.
The celebration carries forward the community-building spirit associated with Lokmanya Tilak’s public Ganeshotsav. Far from Maharashtra, the festival continues to connect people through language, faith, music and shared memories.
Orlando may be thousands of miles from Maharashtra, but Ganeshotsav proves that distance cannot weaken cultural roots.
Bappa arrives with celebration and leaves behind memories, unity and a renewed connection with home.
Ganpati Bappa Morya! Pudhchya Varshi Lavkar Ya!
